Terms

Written to be read. The three things that actually cost you something are first, not at number fourteen.

Read these first
01

The money waits, and that is deliberate

A buyer's card is held at checkout and charged only once staff have checked the item. Showroom then holds the money while the item is in a locker, and the seller is paid after the buyer collects it. A seller is therefore handing something over before they have been paid, and the buyer is protected until they have it.

If the seller never drops it off, or it does not match its listing, the hold is released and the buyer is never charged. If the buyer never collects it, only the locker fee and its tax are charged.

02

You are responsible for what you sell

The condition, the description, the photographs and whether the thing is what you say it is. Showroom checks listings and holds money. It does not inspect, authenticate, repair or insure anything.

If an item is not as described, that is a report against the seller, and the record of it stays attached to the seller.

03

Your school can be told

This runs inside one school and staff at that school operate it. Breaking the rules here is not only an account matter.

Selling schoolwork, answer keys or test content, and anything involving the safety of another student, goes to the school. Everything else is handled here first.

Who may be here
04

One school

An account requires a verified connection to The Village School: a school email address, the roster, a parent or guardian, or a school ID reviewed by staff.

An ID photograph is held in a private store, reviewed through a link that expires in sixty seconds, and deleted within seven days. Only the fact that verification happened is kept.

05

Under eighteen

Most people here are. A parent or guardian may link to a student account and see what it is doing. Where a parent or guardian asks for an account to be closed, it is closed.

Nothing on Showroom is advertised to students by a third party, no behavioural advertising runs here, and no student data is sold to anybody for any reason.

06

One account

One person, one account, under a name the school can match to a real student. Handing your account to somebody else makes you responsible for what they do with it.

What cannot be sold or said
07

The list

No vapes, nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, pills, prescription medicine, weapons or replica weapons. No schoolwork, answer keys, test content or anything written to be handed in by somebody else.

No live animals, no tickets resold above face value, no counterfeits sold as genuine, and nothing you do not own.

08

How people are spoken to

Everything written here is read by an automatic screen before a member of staff ever sees it, and nothing written here is private from the school once it has been reported.

Targeting a person, threats, slurs, sexual content and content about another student that they did not agree to be posted, all end the account and go to the school.

The screen does not suspend anybody. A person decides every time.

09

Taking it off the platform

Finding each other here and then arranging to pay somewhere else removes the shop. It is the way marketplace fraud works, and once money moves outside there is no record on either side.

Money
10

The fee

A percentage of the sale price, shown to you before you confirm a listing and never changed after. Listing is free. Storefronts pay a higher rate because the storefront is built and hosted for them.

Buyers pay a locker fee, set by the price of the item and shown before they pay. The school does not receive any part of either fee. Every number is on the What things cost page.

11

Refunds

While money is held, a not-as-described report opened before release stops the release and a person decides.

When a refund is made it goes back to the card that paid. Banks usually take five to ten business days to show it.

Once money has been released, Showroom cannot claw it back and does not pretend to.

12

Tax

Texas treats the marketplace as the provider for sales made through it, so Showroom collects sales tax at checkout and pays it to the state. This is not tax advice and nobody here is an accountant.

Your things and your data
13

What you write and photograph stays yours

You keep ownership of your listings, your photographs and anything you publish here. By posting it you let Showroom display it inside your school, and nowhere else.

Nothing here is public, nothing is indexed by a search engine, and nothing is visible outside your school.

14

What is kept

Your account, your listings, your orders, your messages and the record of anything reported. Messages are not read by staff unless a participant reports the thread, and every time staff gain access to a thread it is written to an audit log.

You can delete your account yourself from Settings. The record of a completed sale is kept, under the name Former member, because the other person in it has a right to it. The Privacy page says exactly what goes and what stays.

The rest of it
15

No guarantee

Showroom is provided as it is. It is built by students, it is early, and parts of it are named as not built yet throughout the product rather than hidden.

Every sale goes through the lockers, so nobody has to meet anybody. Showroom holds the item and the money while a sale completes, but the sale itself is between the buyer and the seller.

16

Ending it

You can close your account at any time from Settings, Delete my account. Showroom can suspend or close an account for anything in clause 07, 08 or 09, and will say which one.

17

Who runs this

Showroom is run by Showroom, started by students at The Village School in Houston, Texas. The school does not run it and takes no part of any fee.

Questions, complaints and requests about your data go to admin@theshowroomvillage.com. Selling has its own page, the Seller agreement, and data has the Privacy page.

18

Changes

When these terms change in a way that affects what you may do or what you pay, you are told inside the product before the change takes effect, not by a dated file quietly replacing another one.

Questions, or something wrong here

Email admin@theshowroomvillage.com. A person reads every message, usually within a school day. This page describes how Showroom actually works and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
