Privacy

What Showroom keeps about you, who can see it, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Checked against how the app actually works.

Read these first
01

Nothing is sold, and nothing is advertised to you

Showroom does not sell or rent anybody’s information, does not run advertising networks or ad tracking, and does not use outside analytics. The only things that measure what you do are inside Showroom and stay there.

02

Your school sees your name, not your details

Other people at your school can see your name, handle, profile photo, grad year, bio and what you list or post. They cannot see your email address, your sign-up review or anything about how your account was verified.

Messages are seen only by the two people in the conversation. Staff can open a conversation only after one of you reports it, and every time they do it is written to a log.

03

You can delete your account yourself

Settings, Delete my account. It comes down at once: listings off the shop, saved things, wants, follows, your bag and settings deleted, and you are signed out everywhere. The section on deleting says what is kept and why.

What Showroom keeps
04

Your account

Your name, school email address, grad year, whether you are a student, parent or staff member, and a handle. A profile photo and a bio only if you add them. Your password is stored scrambled by the sign-in service and nobody at Showroom can see it.

05

How you were verified

If you were matched against the school roster, Showroom keeps a scrambled code made from your email address, never the address itself in the roster. If a parent or guardian is linked to your account, that link is kept.

If you uploaded a school ID to sell, it is kept in a private store that only staff can open, through a link that expires in sixty seconds, and it is deleted within seven days. Only the fact that you were verified is kept.

06

What you post and sell

Listings and their photographs, sizes and stock if you run a storefront, Showcase pieces, comments, what you save, your wants, the people and shops you follow, and your bag.

07

Orders and lockers

What was bought and sold, the price, fees and tax, and each step of the order. Staff photograph an item when it is dropped off, checked and collected, so there is a record if anything goes wrong. Those photographs can be seen only by staff and the two people in that order.

08

Messages

What you send in a conversation, including photos. Every message passes an automatic screen for threats, slurs and unsafe content. The screen flags; a person decides.

09

What Showroom counts

Views, saves and searches inside Showroom, used to put the shop in a useful order, show you your sizes, and show sellers how their listings are doing. It is never shared outside Showroom.

Who else handles it
10

The services Showroom runs on

Supabase stores the database and photographs and runs sign-in. Vercel hosts the website. Microsoft 365 sends Showroom’s emails from admin@theshowroomvillage.com. Stripe handles card payments and seller payouts.

Each of them handles data only to run Showroom, under their own privacy and security terms. Nobody else receives it.

11

Card and bank details go to Stripe, not Showroom

When you pay, your card number goes straight to Stripe and Showroom never sees or stores it. Showroom keeps only the amount, whether it was charged, held or refunded, and Stripe’s reference for it.

Sellers set up payouts with Stripe directly. Stripe asks for the identity and bank details it needs, and Showroom keeps only whether payouts are ready.

12

Your school

Showroom is not run by The Village School and the school does not get your data. Safety is the exception: threats, harm to a student, or selling schoolwork, answer keys or test content are reported to the school, as the Terms say.

13

The law

Showroom gives information to authorities only when the law requires it, and tells the person concerned unless it is not allowed to.

Deleting, and how long things are kept
14

When you delete your account

Deleted: your listings that have not sold, saved things, wants, follows, blocks, your bag, settings, notifications, unsent emails, your payout link and your sign-in. Your name, handle, photo and bio are removed. Your ID photo, if there is one, is deleted.

Kept: finished sales and the messages in them, because the other person in each one has a right to their own record and tax law requires sales records. They stay under the name Former member. Anything reported stays with the report.

You cannot delete your account while an order is still going or money from a sale is still on its way to you. Finish or cancel it first and the button works.

15

How long

Your account data is kept while your account is open. School ID photos are deleted within seven days. Sales records are kept as long as tax law requires. Everything else goes when you delete your account.

Young people, cookies, your rights
16

Students under eighteen

Most people on Showroom are. A parent or guardian can link to a student’s account, see what it is doing and ask for it to be closed. Showroom is built for the upper school; if an account turns out to belong to a child under thirteen, it is closed and its data deleted.

17

Cookies and your device

Showroom uses one kind of cookie: the one that keeps you signed in. A few conveniences, like the cutouts Build a fit makes, are saved on your own device and never leave it. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

18

Your rights

You can see, correct and download what Showroom holds about you, and delete it. Most of it you can change yourself in Settings. For anything else, or a copy of your data, email admin@theshowroomvillage.com and a person will do it.

Showroom is responsible for your data. Changes to this page that affect you are shown inside Showroom before they take effect.

Questions, or something wrong here

Email admin@theshowroomvillage.com. A person reads every message, usually within a school day. This page describes how Showroom actually works and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
